But there is more to helping a child in a medical emergency … especially when you have a duty of care to them.

Learn how to act without fear or confusion in a medical emergency if it involves a baby or child in your care.

This course focuses on emergency scenarios that may be faced by those looking after babies and young children. It prepares you for the times you wish will never happen but MAY occur.

It is suitable for anyone working with children from birth to 8 years.

Who Is This Course For?

  • Creche & daycare workers
  • Pre-school workers
  • Nannies
  • School clubs
  • Those working with or caring for babies and young children

You Need the Right Knowledge!

With children in your care for most hours of the day, you have to be prepared for any accident or illness.

You need to give Parents of the Children the Confidence that YOU can take care of their precious ones.

Give Parents Peace of Mind!

Parents dropping their precious little miracle in your care have put their faith in you to keep them safe.

This is no small job.

You have to understand the risks the children face, generally and specifically to your establishment, and prepare to handle them appropriately.

You already know that children love adventure, they want to explore as it is how they learn. However, they do not understand the dangers of their actions or what harm they might come to. This is why you need to prepare for all possibilities.

You sometimes feel the weight of the responsibility of taking care of children that just seem to want to dive off any surface in the house (e.g. the top cupboard or the balcony) but that is what they do. What you are supposed to do is keep them safe and prepare for any injury or illness that may arise.

The knowledge and skills you get may be useful now and they may be useful down the line, say in 5 years but it will make a difference. It can also be knowledge useful to help another child, either in your care or a stranger, now wouldn't that be amazing? The ability to come to the aid of someone in need? The possibility of saving a life?

It is possible that a child will pass through your creche, daycare or pre-school without getting injure. Even if they do, it is usually minor. But heartbreakingly, they could be major incidents that require you to recognize it fast and act with confidence within seconds but sadly you may be lacking the vital knowledge to do that.

You want the knowledge and skills on the small chance that something may go wrong. You hope it doesn't but if it does, you are prepared.

If you don't need to use the knowledge now, that is ok. The knowledge and skills you get may be useful now and they may be useful down the line and it will make a difference. It can also be knowledge useful to help another child outside of the creche, daycare centre or school. The ability to come to the aid of someone in need? The possibility of saving a life?

Don't think that by focusing on it, you are inviting it into your life. No!.

  • You have a fire extinguisher in your school or car, are you inviting a fire into those places?
  • You are have a clinic or hospital on retainer, are you inviting illness into your life?
  • You have insurance on your car, are you inviting an accident?

We could go on and on but what this tells you is that these actions prepare for if such situations arise. Ensuring you are prepared to handle medical emergencies is also one of them.

Being responsible for a child is a huge responsibility and you should never stop learning how to keep them safe and healthy.

At the core of learning is making sure you never have to look back with regret, you want to know you did all you could because you were prepared. You never want to say "Oh! Had I known..."

Sometimes you think, "Where is this information?", "Where is the time to learn all I need to know". Don't worry, that's where First Aid by Levande comes in.

We have made it easy for you to get the information you need to help a child in your care.

What makes us different

Teaching First Aid is not just what we do at First Aid by Levande. It is personal to the Lead Trainer, and Founder, Dr. Tosin Osikoya.

She started teaching First Aid 5 years ago after she had to help a son through a medical emergency and saw there was need to make the knowledge and skills available to everyone.

What we teach about First Aid is relevant to Nigerians and cuts across some of the more common accidents and injuries she has managed while in clinical management.

The best thing is to prevent an accident or illness taking place. The next best thing is to quickly and calmly recognise it and act to help. This is what First Aid by Levande is about.
