Full Paediatric First Aid

This comprehensive Full Paediatric First Aid Course is presented at your setting over TWO  consecutive DAYS days of your choice. This course is advisable such that a trained caregiver is available at all times within a professional child care establishment in the absence of their parents, whether in-house or on trips and excursions. 

If you don’t need first aid training for work reasons but would like to learn first aid for babies and children, take our first aid for baby and child class which is tailored to new and expectant parents, grandparents and carers.

What Will You Learn?

Day One

1. Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
2. Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
3. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
    a. Unconscious, not breathing – CPR & AED use
    b. Unconscious, breathing – Recovery position
4. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
5. Identify how to administer first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing a seizure
6. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
7. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
8. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
9. The First Aid Kit
10. The Emergency Action Plan


Day Two

1. RECAP of Day 1
2. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
3. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries
4. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
5. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness
6. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature
7. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock
8. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds
9. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
10. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis


Class Duration

A minimum of 7 – 8 hours daily for 2 days. 


Assessment and Certification

1. Practical skills are assessed by continuous observation by the trainer and there are written assessment papers to check understanding.

  • 7 x Practical assessments
  • 2 x Theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers).

2. Certificate of Completion (Full Paediatric First Aid)
