A First Aid Kit is a Necessity
In a medical emergency you need the right tools and this means having a first aid kit and/or a trauma kit.
Please, don’t worry about the container, worry about the CONTENTS.
Do you know there is a difference between a First Aid Kit and a Trauma kit? Yes!
Trauma Kits are meant to deal with major injuries, typically life-threatening and a hospital and/or doctor is needed. The items in these kits are 100% life-saving. The focus is to keep you alive until a medical expert is available. E.g. tourniquets, haemostatic agents, chest seals etc. YOU REQUIRE TRAINING TO USE THESE.
A First Aid Kit deals with basic and superficial wounds, like everyday cuts and scrapes and treat non life-threatening injuries. YOU REQUIRE ALMOST NO TRAINING TO USE THESE.
In terms of price, Trauma kits are much more specialized and are more expensive. Price can range from N50,000 to over N150,000 for a kit containing between 3 to 8 items.
First aid kits are much cheaper and depending on content and quantity, Levande’s First Aid Kits ranges in cost between N3,000 and N70,000 for between 10 to 200 items!
You can also have a mixture of both – an Advanced First Aid Kit.
Depending on where it is needed, the content should have things to help:
- Dress a wound
- Resuscitate a victim
- Stop a life threatening bleed
- Help with shock
- Help with a fracture
- Support a sprain
So, ensure it has face shields, trauma/abdominal/woven pads, emergency blankets, aluminium splints, different types of bandages and plasters (adhesive bandages).
Don’t think that paracetamol, antibiotics, forceps and an aluminium bowl should be what you require. They won’t help in the first few minutes.
